Before donating your car to a charity, there are ten things you should know to make the donation benefit everyone involved. 1. When you donate your car to a charity, you will need to get a receipt for tax purposes. This receipt should have the name of the organization, contact information, the organizations tax identification number, and the signature of an authorized representative. Keep this receipt handy for filing your tax return and file it carefully in case you should ever be audited by the Internal Revenue Service. 2. Youll need to keep your car in good condition in order to donate it to a charity. Just like you wouldnt want to drive a car that is not in good condition, a charity does not want to have to deal with a car that is in bad condition. 3. Keeping your car clean is an important part of taking care of it. Make sure you wash your car regularly and keep the interior free of dust and dirt. 4. Donating your car to a charity must be carefully researched. Make sure you find an organization that is a legitimate nonprofit organization or your donation will not be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. You would then lose out on any tax benefits anticipated from donating your car. 5. You can find a legitimate charity that accepts car donations by using a number of resources. Check online by using the search terms 'car donation' or 'donating cars to charity.' You can also check with local associations to find opportunities. 6.
